New Dedicated Server for Penweb SitesIn the past Penweb has rented co-located servers. This means that usually 80 companies such as penweb shared a single computer, divided into separate "servers". Each server had a small amount of disk space allocated to it, so Penweb had had from 2-4 of these co-located servers to provide enough disk space for all its clients. This also meant that Penweb clients were limited to a small amount of disk space for each email account. Between email, a web site and a site's log files, each site was using a large percentage of the allocated disk space. No more. Starting in November Penweb has had its own dedicated server - its own computer located at the same kind of server farm as the co-located servers previously used. It has the same redundant fiber connections to the web backbone, the same UPS backup batteries, the same diesel generators for extended power outages. This means each of now gets 500meg of disk space in the Standard hosting package, instead of only the 100meg previously. That's almost 100meg per email acct, instead of only 10-20meg as before. It also means there's plenty of room for all of you to now have statistics on your sites, instead of having to pay an additional $5/month. You can see how your site visits change over time, where visitors are coming from, which browsers and operating systems they're using and much more. The cost of the Standard Hosting plan has gone from $16/mo to $20/mo. But you get a lot more for your money. Plus, now I do all tech support myself. No more waiting hours for someone in India to take a look at a problem, just to then "escalate" it to another tech who knows a little more about it.
